On April 1, 2012, Premier Wen Jiabao met with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Nanning, Guangxi. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on the bilateral relations and issues of common concern in a friendly atmosphere.

Wen said that China-Malaysia relations at present maintain a sound development momentum. The two countries enjoy solid political mutual trust and share mutual understanding and support on issues involving each other’s major interests.

Wen noted that the two sides should focus on efforts in the following areas for further communication and cooperation: first, build and operate the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (QIP) soundly and actively explore the establishment of industrial park in Malaysia; second, steadily promote large projects of energy, transport and manufacturing and boost investment and trade cooperation; third, expand financial cooperation and speed up the trade settlement in local currency on the basis of broadening the bilateral currency swap; fourth, strengthen law enforcement cooperation, fight telecom fraud and terrorist activities, launch the China-Malaysia negotiations on the extradition treaty and mutual legal assistance agreement and discuss the signing of agreement on fighting cross-border crimes; fifth, step up cultural exchanges, conduct mutual visits of youth of both countries and implement the bilateral agreement on mutual recognition of academic degrees of higher education; sixth, insist on the principles of respecting each other, seeking common ground while putting aside differences and reaching consensus through consultations, promote the healthy development of “10+1”, “10+3”, East Asia Summit and other cooperation mechanisms, cement solidarity of East Asian countries and advance regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Najib said that the bilateral ties have moved forward since Malaysia and China established diplomatic relations 38 years ago and embrace a bright future. The sustained and rapid development of Chinese economy and the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries have effectively promoted Malaysia’s domestic development. The Malaysian government is willing to work together with China to build the QIP into a demonstration park of bilateral cooperation, jointly explore and cultivate new growth points of cooperation, deepen cooperation in trade, energy, transportation, finance, aviation, judicial security, culture and other fields, consolidate the friendship between the people, work together closely in regional affairs and promote the comprehensive development of bilateral relations.

Following the meeting, the two prime ministers attended the signing ceremony of the joint venture of QIP.

Party Secretary of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Guo Shengkun, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun, Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhu Zhixin, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Chai Xi were present at the above-mentioned activities.
