On May 2, 2012, Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with visiting Zambian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Given Lubinda in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai. Hui hailed the traditional friendship between both countries. Hui said the Sino-Zambian friendship has deep historical basis and emotional foundation. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 48 years ago, the Sino-Zambian relations have withstood the test of the changes in the international situation and domestic circumstances and have been developing smoothly. More fruitful results of cooperation between the two countries have brought tangible benefits to both peoples. He also attributed the fruitful development of bilateral relations to the long-range strategic perspective from which both sides handle bilateral ties, to the two states' adherence to the principles of peaceful co-existence and to substantial cooperation based on equality and mutual benefits. China-Zambia traditional friendship was created by the older generations of the leaders of the two countries and both sides should cherish and develop the ties by advancing with the times. China will work with Zambia to open up new prospects of bilateral ties, Hui vowed. In recent years, the Zambian government and people have actively explored the path of development suited to their national conditions and the country has maintained national unity and stability as well as rapid economic growth. China sincerely wishes the people of Zambia greater development on the road ahead, Hui said. Lubinda said Zambia attaches great importance to relations with China and thanks for China's strong support for Zambia's cause of national liberation as well as its invaluable assistance for Zambia's economic and social development. He praised China's contribution to the growth of the world economy and its constructive role in the international arena, saying China's development offers opportunities for all countries including Zambia. The Zambian government will remain committed to enhancing the traditional friendly and cooperative relations with China.
