On December 18, 2010, Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao addressed the China-Pakistan business cooperation summit in Islamabad.
Wen said Pakistan is China’s friendly neighbor. The two countries have established all-weathered friendship and cooperated comprehensively, which has become the model of good-neighborly friendship. Trade and economic cooperation has always been a key link of China-Pakistan friendship, bringing about tangible benefits to the two peoples and effectively promoting the development of China and Pakistan respectively. Practices show the more developed China-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation is, the closer the bilateral relations and the firmer the traditional friendship between the two peoples will be.
He stressed China-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation enjoys not only a solid political foundation but also strong complementarities. Businesses of both sides have stronger desire to strengthen cooperation and the bilateral economic and trade cooperation has a promising future. The two sides should expand trade scale, optimize trade structure and try to achieve more than US10 billion of annual bilateral trade volume at an earlier date. China expects to push forward the construction of free trade area with Pakistan and will continue to send trade and investment promotion delegations to purchase in Pakistan; boost mutual investment, deepen cooperation in infrastructure construction and establish China-Pakistan entrepreneur’s forum as a platform for businesses of both sides to work together. China is willing to fulfill its commitment to taking an active part in Pakistan’s post-disaster reconstruction and helping the Pakistani people rebuild their home. He hopes the entrepreneurs of both countries join hands to create a bright future for the bilateral trade and economic relations.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani noted China is a reliable friend of Pakistan. His country enjoys abundant resources and relatively large market potential and stands at a critical stage of development. Pakistan enjoys strong economic complementarities with China and is a sound destination of investment of Chinese businesses. The Pakistani government welcomes more Chinese businesses to invest in Pakistan and take an active part in Pakistan’s economic and social construction for which it will provide facilitation and security guarantee. To strengthen trade and economic cooperation between Pakistan and China will promote the development of the two countries respectively, increase the friendship between the two peoples and help deepen the bilateral relations.
The China-Pakistan business cooperation summit is co-hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Board of Investment of Pakistan and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry. About 500 representatives of business communities from both sides attended the summit.
