Xi Jinping Receives Order of José Marti of Cuba

On July 22, 2014, President Xi Jinping received the Order of José Marti presented by the Cuban government in Havana.

The Order of José Marti is named after a Cuban national hero, revolutionary pioneer and litterateur, and is the medal of the highest honor in Cuba. To commend Xi Jinping for the outstanding contributions to promoting the China-Cuba relations and his great achievements in leading the Chinese people to build socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Cuban government decided to award Xi Jinping this order,

The order-awarding ceremony was held grandly at the Palace of the Revolution. Accompanied by majestic marches, the standard-bearers holding high the national flags of China and Cuba entered the hall in parade step. The military band played the national anthems of the two countries. Secretary of the Council of State Homero Acosta Alvarez of Cuba announced the decision to present the order. President of the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers Raúl Castro of Cuba put on the order for Xi Jinping.

After being awarded the order, Xi Jinping delivered a speech, thanking the Cuban government for awarding the order, and emphasizing that President Raúl awarding me the Oder of José Martí reflects the friendly feelings of President Raúl and the Cuban party, government and people towards the Chinese party, government and people. China and Cuba are both socialist countries, and the common ideal, beliefs and objectives have tightly united the two peoples together. China is full of confidence in the future development of the China-Cuba relations, and is willing to be good friends, good comrades and good brothers with Cuba forever, so as to jointly promote the China-Cuba relations for new highs.

On the same day, Xi Jinping also laid a wreath to the José Martí Memorial.
