Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Yang Yanyi, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, at the Opening of "China Open House Day"

(From Chinese Mission to the European Union)

2016/09/12

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning. It is my distinct honor and pleasure to welcome you all to the 2016China Open House Day organized by the Chinese Mission to the EU.

I am really glad to see so many friends gathered here and I hope you'll enjoy your day here discovering China's many hidden gems: philosophy, tradition, art, culture, calligraphy, cuisine and way of living, and learning more about how the country and its people areexploring and working for a better life for a better world.

As you may know, this year marks the first year of China's 13th Five Year Plan. The major objectives are to promote innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development and build a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020.

Given this and since you are coming for the best highlights, we have designed a range of programs which we hope will enable you to better understand that distant land and to see what we have achieved over the past year.

Let me also take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all our EU friends for your sincerity and generosity to forge closer bonds of friendship between China and Europe and I am hopeful that today's event will contribute to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between our peoples.

I would like to particularly encourage our young people to learn Chinese, to get to know China and travel to China if the opportunities come your way so that you will play auseful and constructive role in the advancement of China-EU relations in the future.

Before I conclude, I wish to say that today happens to be our Teacher's Day. So, to all our teachers, Chinese or European, we wish to say the way you teach, the knowledge you share, the care you take, the love you shower make you the world's best teachers. Your contribution is highly appreciated and any amount of thanks wouldn't be enough. Therefore we just extend to you our best wishes: happiness on the Teacher's Day!

And since our traditional festival-the Mid-Autumn Festival or the Moon Festival is just around the corner, let us also take full advantage of today's function to warmly embrace this festival and celebrate its three fundamental and intertwined concepts: gathering, thanks-giving and praying. To give thanks for harmonious unions and to wish for a good future for China, for the EU and for all the distinguished guests present here this morning.

Thank you very much. Do have an enjoyable and rewarding China Open House Day.
