Lesotho Prime Minister Witnessed Hand-over of China-Lesotho Friendship Middle School

On 19 January 2017, the Lesotho Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili and Mrs. Mathato Mosisili attended the hand-over ceremony of the China-Lesotho Friendship Middle School. The Chinese Ambassador Dr. Sun Xianghua, Representatives of the Contractor Shandong Economic & Technical Cooperation Group, the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Mothetjoa Metsing, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. Mamphono Khaketla, Minister of Education and Training Hon. Motlalentoa Letsosa, Minister of Juestice Moeketse V. Malebo, Minister of Labour Hon. Thulo Mahlakeng, Minister of Defence Hon. Tseliso Mokhosi, Minister of Police Hon. Phallang Monare, Minister of Agriculture Hon. Mapalesa Mothokho, Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Joshua Setipa, Minister of Communications Hon. Serialong Qoo, other senior government officials, honorable members of parliament, local chiefs, and representatives of the society and students were also present.

The Prime Minister spoke highly of the school while inspecting all facilities of the school. He then witnessed the signing of the hand-over certificate of the school by Ambassador Sun Xianghua and Foreign Minister Hon. Khaketla.

Ambassador Sun welcomed in his speech the presence of the distinguished guests, extended appreciation to relevant ministries of the Lesotho Government for their cooperation and support for the project, and commended the excellent work done by the contractor. He pointed out that this was a grant project under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Handed over when Basotho celebrating the 50th anniversary of the independence, it reflected the support by China to Lesotho social and economic development as well as the cordial friendly relationship between the two countries. Ambassador Sun said, China and Lesotho shared the same thought of giving education fundamental priority in national development. The school will promote robustly the Losotho's education and economic and social development, and also encourage other international partners to contribute to Lesotho's education cause.

The Prime Minister highly commended the facilities of the school as the best one. He recalled the meeting between Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping and African Leaders during the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit and their consensus to prioritize education in the development of Africa. He said, investment into education and building this school would help Lesotho to fulfill its sustainable development goals. He pointed out that, this school and other China-aided massive projects such as Parliament Building, Manthabiseng Convention Centre and National Library were telling love stories between the Chinese and the Basotho peoples. He said this ceremony was a testimony of the warm relations between the two countries and extended deep gratitude to the Chinese Government and people.

Minister of Education Hon. Letsosa said, his ministry would choose the best principal and staff and make it the best of all schools in Losotho. The Principal Chief of Berea extend thanks on behalf of the local society. Representatives of the community and the students danced and sang joyfully over receipt of the school.
