Chinese Consul and Head of Post Wang Jianqun Met with Former First Lady Congresswoman Imelda Romualdez-Marcos

On April 27th, 2017, the Chinese Consul and Head of Post to Laoag Mme. Wang Jianqun paid a courtsey call on the Hon. Imelda Romualdez-Marcos, the former First Lady and the current Congresswoman of the Philippines in Malina.

Consul Wang briefed the Hon. Congresswoman on the current China-Philippine relations and the "One Belt, One Road" initiative of China. Consul Wang spoke highly of the historical contribution made by President Marcos and the First Lady when they visited Beijing in the mid-1970's and established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. She pointed out that China attaches importance to her relations with the Philippines. It is in the interest of both countries to further expand the scope of cooperation in the future.

The Hon. Congresswoman welcomed and thanked Consul Wang for the opportunity of sharing views on Philippine-China relations. She recalled with fond memories of her first visit to China in 1974 and her meeting with Chairman Mao. "China is an important country in the world. The Philippines should develop friendly relations and cooperation with China." she said.
