Ambassador Wang Baodong Presents Letter of Credence to His Majesty King Tupou VI

On June 19, 2017, His Excellency Wang Baodong, new ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Tonga had audience with and presented Letter of Credence to King Tupou VI. Ambassador Wang first conveyed cordial greetings and good wishes of President Xi Jinping to His Majesty. King Tupou VI expressed gratitude and asked ambassador Wang to convey his greetings to President Xi.

Ambassador Wang said the bilateral relationship has achieved good progress since China and Tonga established diplomatic ties 19 years ago. The two countries enjoy mutual respect in political matters, mutually beneficial cooperation in the economic field and close collaboration in multilateral affairs. The growth of China-Tonga relations serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples. The Chinese government attaches great importance to its relations with Tonga, appreciates the royal family and government of Tonga for upholding the One China principle, and is ready to work with Tonga to strengthen dialogue, exchange and cooperation in various fields and advance China-Tonga strategic partnership. Ambassador Wang said that he is deeply honored to be appointed Chinese ambassador to Tonga and will exert best efforts to promote friendship between the two peoples and advance the relations between the two countries.

King Tupou VI warmly welcomed Ambassador to Tonga. He spoke highly of China's achievements of development. He said since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Tonga has always upheld the One China principle. The bilateral relations have developed smoothly with fruitful results in cooperation in various fields. Tonga is ready to work with China to enhance friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation and continuously move forward China-Tonga relations.

Ambassador Wang arrived in Tonga on May 30 and presented copy of Letter of Credence to Vainga Tone, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tonga on May 31.
