Ambassador Sun Xianghua Attended Chinese Community's Bursary Hand-over Ceremony in Berea, Lesotho

On 11 August 2017, H.E. Dr. Sun Xianghua, Ambassador of China, attended the Bursary Hand-over Ceremony in Berea by the China-Lesotho People-to-People Friendship Action Fund. Hon. Mokhele Moletsane, Minister of Education, Hon. Habofanoe Lehana, Minister of Local Government, Hon. Halebonoe Setsabi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, high-level officials from related ministries, local government officials, representatives of the Chinese community, local community and media, and teachers and students from 21 high schools also attended the event.

Ambassador Sun, together with the Honourable Ministers and the representative of the Chinese community, handed over donations of bursary and study kits to 53 needy students from 21 local high schools.

In his remarks, Ambassador Sun praised the great contributions made by the Chinese community to local community through various charitable activities such as donating bursary and food. He pointed out that the students were the future of Lesotho who should take the responsibilities to make a better future for the country. Ambassador Sun called upon the local community and the Chinese community to stand side by side and help each other, together to deepen China-Lesotho relations.

Hon. Moletsane said he was touched by Chinese community's act of goodwill and took the bursary as the best gift to the students. He thanked the Chinese Community and asked Ambassador Sun to convey Lesotho's grateful sentiments to the government and the people of China.

Hon. Lehana expressed his appreciation to the Chinese Government's long-time help and the Chinese community's contributions to the local community, which he himself is from. He considered the donation was actually empowering the students for their future, which echoes China's long-lasting endeavor to teach Lesotho people "how to fish".

Mr. Chen Fei, on behalf of the local Chinese community, expressed their gratitude to the support from the Lesotho government and local society. He hoped the students work hard and build bridges of China-Lesotho friendship. Meanwhile, the sponsored students promised to work hard to make the community proud. The local government officials and representative of the principals also urged the students to be grateful and working hard.
