Ambassador Qin Jian met with the Rector of the Somali National University Mohamed Ahmed Jimale

On August 16th,2017, Ambassador Qin Jian met with the Rector of the Somali National University(SNU) Mohamed Ahmed Jimale.

Mr. Jimale introduced the history , size of the campus, professional settings, condition of teachers and the difficulties faced by the current of SNU. He said that the relations between Somalia and China are timeless, thanks China for its assistance and support to Somalia.

" We hope the universities between Somalia and China can establish the friendly relations, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, carry out capacity building, and train more talents for the development of Somalia ", Mr. Jimale said.

Ambassador Qin said that youth are the future and hope of the country, China attaches great importance to cooperation with Somalia in the field of education, and actively help to cultivate national construction talents. In recent years, around 50 quotas of government scholarships have been offered to Somalia each year to create conditions for the Somali students studying in China. The Chinese embassy will actively promote the friendly cooperation between the universities of two countries and jointly promote the development of the education between China and Somalia.

The Somali National University was founded in 1969, set up 14 faculties, with more than 15,000 students. By the destruction of the civil war, it was re-launched in August, 2014.Now there are 9 faculties and about 1,500 students in the university. It's the only comprehensive public university in Somalia, where the campus of political Science and journalism faculties was built by China in 1983.
