Ambassador Yang Youming Attends the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway

On the morning of 8th September, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Yang Youming attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway. H.E. Edgar Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, also attended and delivered a speech. A dozen of senior officials of Zambian government were present, including Hon. Mr. Ronald Chitotela, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development, Hon. Mr. Chitalu Chilufya, Minister of Health, Hon. Mr. Lawrence Sichalwe, Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Mr. Japhen Mwakalombe, Minister of Lusaka Province, Hon. Mr. Sydney Mushanga, Minister of Central Province, and Hon. Mr. Bowman Lusambo, Minister of Copperbelt Province. Mr. Xu Guojian, General Manager of China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation, were also present. More than 3,000 Zambians from all walks of life witnessed the Groundbreaking Ceremony as well.

President Lungu delivered a warm speech. He said that the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway is Zambia's largest road construction project. After completion, it will significantly improve Zambia's South-North traffic condition, promote economic growth along the road, and benefit local people. He also said that China has been supporting and assisting the development of infrastructure in Zambia for a long time. He has attended several groundbreaking ceremonies of road projects undertaken by Chinese enterprises this year. He would like to take this opportunity to express his sincere thanks to China. He also expressed the hope that the road will become a symbol of China-Zambia friendship in the new era.

Ambassador Yang expressed his warm congratulations in his remarks on the successful groundbreaking of the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway. He said that transportation infrastructure is crucial to the economic and social development of a nation. The Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway will create a modern economic corridor, drive the development along the road, and provide a solid foundation for the development of Zambia. He stressed that China and Zambia share profound traditional friendship, enjoy a time-honored history and have a great prospect of cooperation in the area of infrastructure. China will continue to support the development of transportation infrastructure in Zambia, implement new projects as symbol of China-Zambia friendship, and help Zambia attain its 2030 goal of becoming a prosperous middle income country.

The Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway project will be undertaken by China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation. This 366 kilometer road, linking Lusaka, the nation's capital, Kabwe, the capital of Central Province, and Ndola, the capital of Copperbelt Province, as well as Kapiri Mposhi, the terminal of TAZARA in Zambia, is the economic artery of Zambia.
