Ambassador Qin Jian met with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia Mr. Ali Mohamed Ali

On 17th September 2017, Ambassador Qin Jian met with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia Mr. Ali Mohamed Ali.

Ambassador Qin said that in consideration of the current serious natural disaster in Somalia, and with a view to consolidating and developing the friendly relations between China and Somalia, the Chinese Government provides UNICEF with 2 million US dollars for procuring therapeutic food and medicines for children and women suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Somalia. This fully reflects the brotherhood of China and Somalia and shows China is a responsible major country. The Chinese side hopes that the Somali people will overcome the disaster, rebuild their homes and continuously advance the peace and development process. Ambassador Qin also briefed Mr. Ali on China's assistance to Somalia in human resource development. He said that China has provided nearly 200 quotas to Somalia for training, conference attendance and studying in China, and helped Somalia foster much-needed talents for the country's economic and social development.

Mr. Ali thanked the Chinese government and people for their valuable support and assistance over the years. He said that with China's support and help, Somalia will continue to make new achievements in the peace and reconstruction process. The impact of the natural disaster remains serious, and Somalia needs continued assistance from the international community so as to overcome the crisis. China's energetic support in human resource development is of great importance to Somalia. The government scholarships China provided to various regions of Somalia have had good effects and contributed to regional unity of Somalia. Presently, the Somali students have successfully started their study in China. Hope they will become talents for the economic and social development of Somalia as well as the promotion of the friendly relations between the two countries.
