Ambassador to Jamaica Tian Qi Addresses at the Renaming Ceremony

On June 12, 2018, the Renaming Ceremony of the North South Highway to the Edward Seaga Highway was held at the Unity Valley Toll Plaza, Moneague, St. Ann.

Addressing the party, the Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica TIAN Qi commended that Edward Seaga Highway is a paradigm of successful practical cooperation between China and Jamaica, and also the crystallization of China' s capital, technology and Jamaica's incentives to FDI. It's not only a highway for traffic, but also a highway to the happiness, success and prosperity for Jamaica. He hopes the two countries can join hands to advance closer partnership and greater cooperation into a new era.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness spoke highly of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga on his major contribution to Jamaica's economic, social and cultural development. During Seaga's tenure, many institutions were founded which laid a good foundation for urban planning, local development, infrastructure construction and cultural promotion, leaving valuable wealth for whole society.

Seaga thanked the Jamaican Government and society for the acknowledgement and honor, and also expressed appreciation to Chinese Government and Chinese enterprises for the contribution to the infrastructure construction and economic development of Jamaica. He hopes that Edward Seaga Highway can continue to play a good role in promoting Jamaica's economic and social development to a new level.

The ceremony was attended by Custos Rotulorus of St.Ann Norma Walters, members of the Cabinet, Ministers of State, members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Senate and the House of Parliament, and members of the Media.
