China and Brazil Hold First Round of Consultation Between Director-Generals of Departments of Treaty and Law of Ministries of Foreign Affairs

On October 24, 2014, the first round of consultation between Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs was held in Brasilia. The Chinese delegation was headed by Director-General Xu Hong of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Brazilian delegation was headed by Director of the Department of Immigration and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of External Relations Rodrigo do Amaral Souza of Brazil.

In a candid and friendly atmosphere, both sides fully exchanged views and reached multiple consensus on issues in international law such as the establishment of the bilateral consultation mechanism between Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law, development trend of international law, judicial cooperation, international governance of cyberspace, state immunity and the work concerning the Hague Conference on Private International Law.

Both sides agreed that the establishment of the consultation mechanism between Chinese and Brazilian Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs will enrich the connotation of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and strengthen the coordination and cooperation between the two countries on affairs in international law, so as to jointly safeguard the development interests and strive for more institutional power and rights in the international community. Both sides agreed to sign a memorandum as soon as possible for the establishment of the consultation mechanism.

Director-General Xu Hong also paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister of External Relations Danis of Brazil.
