On June 20, 2017, Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang attended and addressed at invitation the opening ceremony of the "Belt and Road" International Financial Exchange Cooperation Seminar (Pacific Islands Countries) held by Bank of China.

Zheng Zeguang expressed in his speech that in November, 2014, President Xi Jinping held historic meetings in Fiji with leaders of eight Pacific Islands countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, and agreed to establish strategic partnerships featuring mutual respect and common development. Under the guidance of this important consensus, relations between China and Pacific Islands countries enter into a new period of rapid development. The Chinese side welcomes Pacific Islands countries to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" construction, and get on the express train of China's development, in a bid to inject strong impetus into Pacific Islands countries' economic and social development. It is believed that the international exchange cooperation seminar will help the development of finance industry for Pacific Islands countries and play an active role in enhancing cooperation between China and Pacific Islands countries.

Chairman of the Bank of China Tian Guoli and representative of participants at the seminar and Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration Sihna Neth Lawrence of the Federated States of Micronesia respectively delivered speeches.

This is the first international financial seminar held by Bank of China for Pacific Islands countries. Over 40 financial officials and representatives of financial institutions from eight Pacific Islands countries that have diplomatic relations with China attended the seminar.
