2017/11/08

On November 7, 2017, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou attended and addressed the reception celebrating the 6th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN-China Center (ACC) at invitation.

Kong Xuanyou firstly briefed on relevant information of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, stressing that General Secretary Xi Jinping has pointed out that the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics should promote the building of a new type of international relations and of a community with a shared future for mankind. It not only highly condenses the general goal pursued by China's diplomacy in the new era, but also shows the world the general direction toward which we hope to make joint efforts with other countries.

Kong Xuanyou expressed that this August, President Xi Jinping specially sent a congratulatory message to President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, the rotating presidency of the ASEAN, on the huge achievements since the founding of ASEAN 50 years ago and also charted the course for the development of China-ASEAN relations in the future. In a few days, Premier Li Keqiang will travel to Manila to attend the series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation. China expects to push for improvement and upgrade of China-ASEAN relations through this visit, so as to forge a higher level of China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

Recognizing the achievements the ACC has made in recent years, Kong Xuanyou hoped the ACC will take the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership in 2018 as an opportunity to give full play to the unique advantage of China-ASEAN mechanism, the only inter-governmental international organization, and to well design and implement relevant events in 2018, so as to play a role as a bridge and platform in advancing exchanges and cooperation for both sides.

ACC Secretary-General Ambassador Yang Xiuping and Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana delivered speeches respectively. Attended by around 400 guests including diplomatic envoys of ASEAN countries to China and personages from all circles, the reception proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
