China's Special Envoy to Middle East Wu Sike Meets with Palestinian Officials

On August 24, 2011, Wu Sike, China's special envoy to Middle East, who was visiting Palestine, met respectively with Tayeb Abed Al Rahim, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Yasser Abed Rabbo, Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee.

Wu said that the issue of Palestine is the core of the Middle East issue. The Chinese government and people firmly support the just cause of the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate national rights and interests and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and with full sovereignty. Palestine plans to submit this issue to the United Nations in September, for which the Chinese side expressed understanding, respect and support. The Chinese side also expressed the appreciation and support for the strategic choice made by Palestine to promote the independence and peace negotiations in a balanced manner.

Tayeb and Rabbo expressed their appreciation for the long-term valuable support the Chinese side has provided for the Palestinian issue. They spoke highly of China's impartial position on the issue of establishing an independent Palestinian state. They also expressed the willingness to continue to strengthen communication and coordination with China and push forward the just cause of the Palestinian people.
