On August 17, 2006, Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Secretary General Greg Urwin of the Pacific Islands Forum on strengthening the friendly cooperation between China and the members of the Forum and implementing the results achieved during Premier Wen Jiabao's attendance of the opening ceremony of the first ministerial meeting of the China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development & Cooperation Forum. Urwin reiterated that the Pacific Islands Forum would continue pursuing the one-China policy and properly handling the Taiwan-related questions at this year's summit and follow-up dialogue of the Forum.
