Xi Jinping Holds Telephone Talks with President Donald Trump of the US at Request

On September 6, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President Donald Trump of the US at request.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, China-US exchanges and cooperation in various fields have been further advanced. Diplomatic security teams and economic teams of the two countries maintain close communication and both sides are preparing the first round of China-US social and people-to-people and cultural dialogue, law enforcement and cyber security dialogue. China attaches importance to Mr. President's state visit to China this year and hopes teams of both countries to make concerted efforts to ensure a successful visit.

Donald Trump said that it is vitally important for him and President Xi Jinping to keep close communication and cement coordination on major international and regional issues. He expects to pay a state visit to China within this year and hold another meeting with President Xi Jinping.

The two heads of state mainly exchanged views on the current Korean Peninsula situation. Xi Jinping stressed that China is staunchly committed to realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and defending the international nuclear non-proliferation system. Meanwhile, China insists on safeguarding peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and addressing the issue through dialogue and consultation. The essence of addressing the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue with the general direction of peaceful settlement is to actively explore a long-term solution through dialogues, negotiations and comprehensive measures.

Donald Trump said that the US attaches grave concern to the development of the current Peninsula situation, values the important role China has been playing in addressing the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and stands ready to strengthen communication with China to find a solution for the Peninsula nuclear issue at an early date.
