Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Zhang Jun Briefs G77 on Outcomes of BRICS Xiamen Summit

On September 21, 2017, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Zhang Jun attended the G77 senior officials meeting at the UN headquarters in New York, comprehensively briefing G77 members on the BRICS Xiamen Summit.

Zhang Jun elaborated on the important significance of the Xiamen Summit on deepening South-South cooperation and forging the second "Golden Decade" for BRICS in a comprehensive manner, and interpreted the outcomes of the Xiamen Summit from the perspectives of planning the future direction, deepening practical cooperation, enhancing coordination and cooperation, and intensifying people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Combing the Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing Countries held on the sidelines of the BRICS Xiamen Summit, Zhang Jun explained the concept of the BRICS Plus cooperation, and emphasized that the fundamental starting point of China's participation in and promotion of BRICS cooperation is to forge BRICS countries into a platform for South-South cooperation that benefits the five countries and the whole world at large, as well as build more extensive partnerships, so as to safeguard the common interests of emerging market and developing countries.

Zhang Jun also made interaction with representatives from all countries. Highly appraising China's initiative briefs on the Xiamen Summit to G77, representatives from Cuba, Venezuela, Thailand and other countries spoke positively of the fruitful results achieved at the Summit, and expected that BRICS countries could further enhance dialogue and cooperation with emerging market and developing countries.
