Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister of Sierra Leone Bangura

On November 5, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Foreign Ministry with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone, Zainab Hawa Bangura.

During the meeting, Yang hailed the healthy, smooth development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties. The two sides have maintained frequent personnel exchanges, and mutual support and close cooperation in international affairs with all-round development of trade cooperation, he said.

"China values the traditional friendship with Sierra Leone and will continue to strengthen cooperation in areas including trade, health and human resources training so as to open up new prospects for bilateral friendly cooperation," said the Chinese foreign minister.

Bangura thanked Yang for the long-term disinterested assistance from the Chinese government. The government and people of Sierra Leone are now committed to post-war reconstruction and are ready to conduct more cooperation with China on issues such as trade, investment, infrastructure construction and agriculture to promote the country's economic development. Bangura also reiterated that Sierra Leone will continue to abide by the one-China policy.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
