President Hu Jintao Exchanges Congratulatory Messages with Sierra Leonean Counterpart on 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties between the Two Countries

On July 29, 2011, Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages with his Sierra Leonean counterpart Ernest Bai Koroma to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message, Hu said that with joint efforts, bilateral relations have been developing healthily and steadily over the past 40 years. Both sides have shown mutual trust and mutual support for each other in the political areas. They have also conducted mutually beneficial cooperation in national construction and maintained close communication and coordination in international affairs. In particular in the new century, the cooperation between China and Sierra Leone in all areas has been further expanded and bilateral friendly cooperative relations enjoy broader prospect for development under the promotion of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China cherishes its traditional friendship with Sierra Leone and stands ready to further strengthen friendly contacts with the West African country and expand practical cooperation in various areas in a bid to elevate the friendly relations to a higher level, Hu said.

Koroma, for his part, said that over the past decades, both sides have always respected each other and their friendship has become even firmer as time goes by. The development of bilateral relations has made satisfactory achievements. Sierra Leone will remain committed to deepening the existing friendly and cooperative relations between the two nations in the future.

On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also exchanged congratulatory messages with his Sierra Leonean counterpart J. B. Dauda on the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
