On February 25, 2013, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun in Dar es Salaam. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and issues of common concern.

Zhai said that Tanzania is an all-weather friend of China. Created and fostered by the older generations of leaders of the two countries, China-Tanzania relations have been deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples and have yielded fruitful results for the benefit of the two peoples. China deems Tanzania an important partner in Africa and is willing to work together with the Tanzanian side to further promote their traditional friendship in the new situation, strengthen solidarity and cooperation and build China-Tanzania relations into a model of China-Africa relations for the new era.

Kikwete said Tanzania and China enjoy profound traditional friendship and the relationship with China is a priority of Tanzania's diplomatic relations. China's long-standing firm support to Tanzania has provided valuable help for Tanzania's economic and social development. The Tanzania-Zambia railway is a symbol of Tanzania-China traditional friendship. The Nyerere International Convention Center serves as a witness to Tanzania-China friendship and cooperation in the new era. China is a sincere friend of Tanzania, and Tanzania and Africa will remain trustworthy partners of China, he added.

On the same day, Zhai also met with Tanzanian Foreign Minister Bernard Membe at the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
