On January 18, 2016, at the invitation the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin attended the ninth Asian Financial Forum held in Hong Kong.

Liu Zhenmin gave a speech entitled "Construct the Belt and Road, Promote East Asia Cooperation and Achieve Beautiful Vision of Common Prosperity" at the opening ceremony of the forum, introducing the great significance and latest progress of the "Belt and Road" construction, emphasizing that the "Belt and Road" and regional cooperation are coordinative, compatible and mutually promoting and elaborating the important achievements of East Asia cooperation. Liu Zhenmin called on all parties to remain confident in China's economy and Asia's development, to seize the opportunities of the "Belt and Road" construction and East Asia cooperation and to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to jointly create a beautiful vision. Liu Zhenmin welcomed Hong Kong to participate and play a positive role in relevant cooperation processes.

During his visit in Hong Kong, Liu Zhenmin also met with Chief Executive of the HKSAR Leung Chun-ying and others.
