Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu Meets with United Nations ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana

On April 20, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana via video link.

Ma Zhaoxu extended congratulations on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the ESCAP, and spoke highly of its contributions to promoting economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region. He said, under the new circumstances, China supports the ESCAP in playing a bigger role in promoting regional cooperation, boosting post-pandemic economic recovery, and achieving sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. China is ready to work with the ESCAP to advance the Global Development Initiative (GDI), accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and jointly build an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.

Alisjahbana thanked China for its strong support for the ESCAP, and spoke highly of the role of the GDI in promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific region. She said, the ESCAP stands ready to further cooperate with China to ensure the success of events marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the ESCAP and its annual session this year, promote the common agenda of sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region, and boost the post-pandemic economic recovery in the Asia-Pacific region.
