President Mauricio Macri of Argentina Meets with Wang Yi

On May 22, 2018 local time, President Mauricio Macri of Argentina met at the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Mauricio Macri asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and expressed that Argentina attaches great importance to China and thanks China for providing support and assistance when the Argentine economy suffers temporary difficulties. The Argentine side hopes to continue deepening Argentina-China comprehensive strategic partnership and constantly strengthen bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, tourism and infrastructure. He earnestly expects President Xi Jinping to attend the G20 Summit in Argentina and pay a state visit to the country. Argentina attaches importance to China's Belt and Road Initiative, and believes that strengthening the "Belt and Road" cooperation between the two countries will provide new impetus for the in-depth development of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Mauricio Macri. Wang Yi noted that there have been some fluctuations in the economic and financial situation in Argentina recently due to the influence of external factors. Under the leadership of Mr. President, the Argentine government has taken a series of strong measures and the situation has been stabilizing. As a comprehensive strategic partner of Argentina, China stands ready to provide assistance within its capacity. The Chinese side attaches importance to developing China-Argentina relations and will strengthen cooperation with the country in such aspects as trade, investment, nuclear power, energy and tourism. China is becoming the world's largest consumer market and has decided to hold an international import expo every year. Argentina is welcome to share China's development opportunities.

Wang Yi expressed that Mr. President attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China last year, and made active contributions to the success of the Forum. The Chinese side regards Argentina as a long-term and important partner of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and is willing to integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with Argentina's national development strategies, so as to open up new prospects for bilateral relations by advancing the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". China fully supports Argentina in holding the G20 Summit and stands ready to intensify communication with Argentina to push for positive outcomes of the Summit.
