On March 25, 2024, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law Ma Xinmin met with Jesse Jeremiah, a member of Nauruan President's delegation visiting China and Nauruan Minister for Infrastructure Development, Environmental Management and Agriculture, and Sports, and his delegation, at the latter's request.

The two sides had an exchange of views on strengthening cooperation in maritime affairs, and agreed to take the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nauru as an opportunity to jointly promote the deepening of cooperation in the deep-sea field.
