Consultation among Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the "P5" of the UN Security Council Held in Moscow

From June 29 to 30, 2017, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Xu Hong led a delegation to Moscow, and co-chaired the Consultation among Director-Generals of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5) with Director-Generals (Legal Advisors) of the Department of the Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the US, the UK and France. The five parties exchanged in-depth views on topics such as the latest progress of domestic laws of each country, immunity of state and their officials, legal issues related to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, work of the UN International Law Commission, work of international judicial and arbitral institutions and others.

During their stay in Moscow, the P5 Director-Generals of the Department of the Treaty and Law also visited at invitation the Moscow Research Center for International and Comparative Law, holding talks and interacting with Russian judges serving in international judicial institutions, teachers and students from universities, heads of legal departments of large-scale Russian enterprises and lawyers. Director-General Xu Hong illustrated the contents and significance of the Declaration of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China on the Promotion of International Law issued by China and Russia in June, 2016, which was acclaimed by the attendees.
