2017/09/01

On August 31, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian of France at request, mainly exchanging views on the current Korean Peninsula situation.

Reiterating China's stance of being committing to realizing denuclearization of the Peninsula and opposing the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) launching ballistic missiles, Wang Yi said that China has been consistently, comprehensively and strictly implementing all the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the DPRK and playing a positive role in the peaceful settlement of the Peninsula issue. At the same time, other parties should also earnestly undertake their due responsibilities to ease the tension with concerted efforts and turn around the current vicious circle as soon as possible.

Jean-Yves Le Drian said that France gravely concerns about the DPRK's recent trial launch of missiles and supports the international community to reinforce efforts in advancing the process of denuclearization of the Peninsula. France supports China to continuously play an important role in the settlement of the Peninsula nuclear issue and totally disagrees with the tone that China fails in fulfilling its responsibilities. The French side stands ready to make joint efforts with China in promoting the peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
