Additional Speech by Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing At 10+3 Ministerial Meeting

Kuala Lumpur, 26 July 2006

2006-08-01 00:00

I am deeply distressed by the unfortunate death of the four UN peacekeepers from China, Austria, Canada and Finland this morning and I hereby express my strong condemnation on the Israeli bombing attack.

We deeply mourn the victims in this tragic incident and extend our sincere condolences to their families.

The international community and the UN shall urge the parties of the conflict to achieve an immediate cease-fire and come back to the track of negotiation and political settlement as soon as possible. China will continue to work with the international community for an early restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East.

I highly appreciate the condolences extended by the Chair of the meeting and other Foreign Ministers to the Chinese government, the Chinese people and myself.
