On September 12, 2018, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong attended at invitation China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Cultural Exchange and Launch of the Cultural Documentary Dan's Way held in Nanning of Guangxi and delivered a speech.

Chen Xiaodong expressed that China-ASEAN Expo focuses on forging a "Nanning Channel" of people-to-people and cultural exchanges with its own features and has become a new highlight for bilateral strategic partnership. China-ASEAN relations have enjoyed long-term and stable development, which is inseparable from the solid supporting role that people-to-people and cultural exchanges have played. Both sides should, on the basis of the existing sound foundation, remain committed to the guidance of positive energy, being down-to-earth, valuing inheritance and creating synergy, in a bid to push China-ASEAN people-to-people and cultural exchanges to new stages and inject new impetus into the comprehensive cooperation between the two sides.

Chen Xiaodong pointed out that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership. Bilateral relations have entered into a mature stage of upgrade and improvement from a growing stage of rapid development. We should further expand exchanges and cooperation in such areas as culture, education, tourism, media and youth, consolidate the people-to-people and cultural exchange pillar for China-ASEAN relations as well as cement the public foundation of bilateral practical cooperation, so as to make new contributions to building an even closer China-ASEAN community of shared future.

The event was hosted by Mission of the People's Republic of China to ASEAN, ASEAN-China Centre, Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Nanning Municipal People's Government. Vice President of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Liu Zhengdong, Mayor of Nanning Zhou Hongbo, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Huang Xilian, the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Hoang Anh Tuan, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre Chen Dehai and other guests were present.
