Treaty Between China and Sri Lanka on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Initialed After Successful Negotiation

From May 6 to 8, 2014, the negotiation of the Treaty between China and Sri Lanka on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters was held in Beijing. The Chinese delegation consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Justice with Sun Ang as the head who is the special coordinator of overseas pursuit-evasion and international cooperation in law enforcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Sri Lankan delegation included the Attorney General's Department, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Sri Lankan Embassy in China, with the Deputy Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasuriya as the head.

Through friendly consultations, the two sides reached agreement on all the terms of the Treaty. After the negotiation, heads of the two delegations signed the minutes of talks and initialed the treaty.
