Special Envoy for China-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue Du Qiwen Attends 29th Post Forum Dialogue of the Pacific Islands

On September 7, 2017, Special Envoy for China-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue Du Qiwen, on behalf of the Chinese government, attended the 29th Post Forum Dialogue of the Pacific Islands in Apia, capital of Samoa. Chinese Ambassador to Samoa Wang Xuefeng accompanied Du Qiwen for relevant activities.

Combining the theme of the meeting and centering on ocean governance, climate change and other topics, Special Envoy Du Qiwen expounded China's stance and proposition, and mainly introduced China's great efforts in and fruitful outcomes from helping Pacific Island countries in such aspects as developing marine economy, protecting marine environment and improving capacity for tackling climate change. Du Qiwen also introduced the development situation of China's relations with Pacific Island countries, China's policies toward Pacific Island countries and the "Belt and Road" initiative, expressing that China is willing to continuously support Pacific Island countries in achieving economic and social development.

Speaking positively of China's relations with Pacific Island countries, all attending parties highly commended China for its constructive role in promoting regional development in Pacific Island countries, and expressed their willingness to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" cooperation.

During the forum, Du Qiwen met respectively with leaders or representatives of the countries including Samoa, Vanuatu, the Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, Niue and New Zealand, as well as Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum. Moreover, Du Qiwen also attended a seminar on "21st Century Maritime Silk Road: China-Pacific Islands Economic Cooperation for Sustainable Development" jointly held by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, the Samoan government, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and other organizations, and delivered a speech on the seminar.
