Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Attends Asia Regional Cooperation Organization Roundtable at BFA Annual Conference 2018

On April 11, 2018, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong attended at invitation the Asia Regional Cooperation Organization Roundtable at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2018 and delivered a keynote speech.

Chen Xiaodong expressed that the keynote speech delivered by President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of the BFA Annual Conference elaborated on the new prospects of China’s reform and opening up, and interpreted the new era of China’s development. It was put forward in the speech that with the future in mind, various countries should strive to build a community with a shared future for mankind and jointly make Asia and the world peaceful, safe, prosperous, open and beautiful, receiving warm response from the international community. Such gestures have provided policies for China to follow in participating in regional cooperation in Asia in the next stage, and also charted the course for in-depth development of regional cooperation in Asia in the future.

Chen Xiaodong pointed out that regional cooperation in Asia has such distinctive “Asian features” as focusing on development, exploration and innovation, as well as inclusiveness. China will, in accordance with the blueprint drawn by President Xi Jinping in his speech at the opening ceremony of the BFA Annual Conference, continuously increase input into regional cooperation, jointly make innovation in cooperation concepts with various countries, uphold openness and inclusiveness, adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results, and share development opportunities and outcomes, so as to lead regional cooperation in Asia into the new era.

Under the theme of “Innovative Development and the Future of Regional Cooperation in Asia”, the roundtable was hosted by China Institute of International Studies. Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Liu Zhenmin, and principals, experts and scholars from regional organizations such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the ASEAN-China Centre, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, the China-Japan-ROK (the Republic of Korea) Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat, the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization attended the roundtable.
