The JCPOA Embraces the First Anniversary of Implementation

(From Chinese Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna)

On January 10, 2017, the six countries on the Iranian nuclear issue and Iran held in Vienna the 6th Joint Committee meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iranian Nuclear Issue (JCPOA). Secretary General for the European External Action Service Helga Schmid chaired the meeting. Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon of the US and officials of Russia, the UK, France and Germany attended the meeting. Director General of the Department of Arms Control of the Foreign Ministry Wang Qun led a delegation to attend the meeting.

Wang Qun said that the JCPOA is about to embrace its first anniversary of implementation, and it has gone smoothly in general so far. It is hoped that all parties could continuously stick to the political commitment, work strictly under the regulations of the JCOPA, properly solve technical divergences and constantly push forward the follow-up implementation of the JCPOA. As an active participant, promoter and contributor of the political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, China stands ready to work with all sides to promote the continuous, comprehensive and effective implementation of the JCPOA.

Positively evaluating the implementation progress of the JCPOA in general, all parties exchanged candid and in-depth views on sanction relieving and issues in the nuclear field, and committed to continuously well implementing the JCPOA. All sides expressed appreciation for China's efforts in advancing the modification of the Arak heavy water reactor.
