Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou Meets with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines

On November 2, 2017, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou met in Manila with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines.

Kong Xuanyou expressed that over the past year, China-Philippines relations have realized major changes from overall turnabout to consolidation and deepening, enjoying sound development momentum and gratifying cooperation results. China attaches high importance to developing its relations with the Philippines, and will continuously adhere to the diplomatic policy with neighboring countries featuring amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and building friendship and partnership with neighboring countries. After the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China's development will bring new opportunities to China- Philippines relations and China-ASEAN relations. The Series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation to be held in Manila soon, and both countries will also have important high-level visits. China is willing to take it as an opportunity to consolidate good-neighborly relationship with the Philippines, and comprehensively deepen cooperation, in a bid to promote bilateral relations and China-ASEAN relations for sustainable and in-depth development.

Alan Peter Cayetano congratulated on the successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress and expressed that China is a friendly and close neighbor as well as a sincere partner of the Philippines, and relations between both countries have achieved rapid development since the turnabout last year. The Philippines thanked China for its strong support to its national development construction, and believed China's development will inject new impetus into China-Philippines relations in future. The Philippines is willing to make joint efforts with China to promote the Series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation to achieve positive outcomes, and ensure a smooth success of the important high-level visits between both countries.

Before the meeting on the same day, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou also conducted consultations with Assistant Secretary of Foreign Affairs Millicent Cruz-Paredes of the Philippines, and Assistant Secretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Helen Barber-Dela Vega of the Philippines on bilateral relations, preparatory works for the Series of Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation and other topics of common interests.
