Xi Jinping Gives Important Instructions on Major Traffic Accident of Chinese Tourists in the DPRK

At around 6:00 p.m. on April 22, 2018 local time, a major traffic accident occurred in North Hwanghae Province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). A tour bus carrying 34 Chinese tourists fell from a local bridge. As of now, 32 Chinese tourists have been killed and 2 seriously injured.

After the accident, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council attached great importance to it. General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping immediately gave important instructions and demanded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in the DPRK to take all necessary measures immediately and coordinate with relevant parties of the DPRK to make all-out efforts to well handle the accident.

Every effort should be made to rescue the injured and the follow-up matters concerning the deceased should be well done. Relevant local departments should take the initiative to carry out the work of comforting the families of the casualties. General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that high attention must be paid to various safety accidents that have frequently occurred lately. As the May Day holiday draws near, a lot of people will go out for travelling. All regions and relevant departments should take the most stringent precautions against security risks, effectively implement the system of responsibility for security work, deeply investigate safety loopholes, strengthen the prevention work, and improve emergency response measures to ensure the safety of people's lives and properties.

Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier Li Keqiang made instructions, requiring speeding up the verification of the specific situation and well handling rescue operations and medical treatment as well as follow-up matters.

According to Xi Jinping's instructions and Li Keqiang's requirement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in the DPRK have launched the emergency response mechanism immediately, maintained close communication with the DPRK and coordinated with the DPRK to carry out rescue operations with all strength. The relevant departments of the DPRK attached great importance to it. At present, the rescue operations are carrying on tensely.
