China and Vietnam Held Plenary Meeting of the Governmental Delegation on Border Negotiation

On December 6 local time, Liu Zhenmin, Head of the Chinese Government Delegation and Vice Foreign Minister and Ho Xuan Son,Head of the Vietnamese Government Delegation and Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam held in Hanoi the Plenary Meeting of the China-Vietnam Governmental Delegation on Border Negotiation.

The two sides fully affirmed the positive progress achieved over the last year by China-Vietnam working group for co-development and border demarcation of sea waters out of the mouth of Beibu Bay, the China-Vietnam expert group for low-sensitivity maritime cooperation and the China-Vietnam joint committee for land border demarcation. The two sides also made specific arrangements for the work in the next year.

The two sides announced the official establishment of the China-Vietnam working group for maritime co-development and consultation so as to implement the important consensus made by leaders of the two countries this year. The group leaders of both sides met for the first time and agreed to hold the first meeting of the working group in January 2014.

The two sides, based on the big picture of China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, agreed to promote the two countries cross-border regions and maritime cooperation, and to jointly safeguard the peace and stability of the South China Sea in accordance with the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries. The two sides believe that they should maintain sound development momentum of bilateral relations. In doing so, the two countries should have closer high-level exchanges, push forward the three-line cooperation on sea, land and finance simultaneously, promote pragmatic cooperation in all the other areas as a whole and strengthen cooperation in international and regional affairs.

On the same day, Phạm Bình Minh, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Chinese Government Delegation.
