On April 14, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
Yang Jiechi said, President Xi Jinping recently paid a successful state visit to Germany. Both sides agreed to uplift China-Germany relations to an all-round strategic partnership, which gives strong driving force for China-Germany cooperation. Both sides should well implement the outcomes of President Xi Jinping's visit to Germany, plan for the exchanges of high-level visits in the next phase, deepen understanding and trust, expand cooperation and work together to build the Silk Road Economic Belt, to push forward China-Germany relations, and always play the exemplary and leading role in China-EU relations. Both sides should strengthen communication and coordination on major international and regional issues, to jointly safeguard world peace, stability and prosperity.
Steinmeier said that all circles of the society in Germany spoke highly of President Xi Jinping's visit to Germany. The German side understands the challenges that China is facing in its process of development, and appreciates the enormous efforts it has made in adjusting economic structure. Germany is willing to share experience with China, to strengthen cooperation, and to actively promote two-way trade, investment and connectivity between the EU and China. At present, uncertain factors have increased in international and regional situation. The German side hopes to strengthen communication and coordination with China.
Both sides also exchanged views on Ukraine, Syria and other issues.
