Xi Jinping Sends Message of Congratulations to Jacob Zuma on His Reelection as President of South Africa

On May 22, 2014, President Xi Jinping sent the message of congratulations to Jacob Zuma on his reelection as President of the Republic of South Africa.

Xi Jinping said in the message of congratulations, over the past five years, under the leadership of Mr. President, the South African government has scored new achievements in governance of the country and the economic and social development. The African National Congress (ANC) won the election once again and you were reelected as the President. It fully indicates the recognition from the South African people of the ANC's accomplishment in governing the country as well as their trust in you.

Xi Jinping said, it remains fresh in my minds that in March last year, I paid a state visit to South Africa and had sincere talks with you. I exchanged the letter of congratulations with you very recently on the launch of the China Year in South Africa and the South Africa Year in China. The consensus in various fields reached between Mr. President and I are being implemented, and the South Africa Year in China has been successfully started.

Xi Jinping stressed, both as important developing countries, China and South Africa share extensive common interests in international and regional affairs. I highly value the China-South Africa relations, and am willing to work with Mr. President to take China-South Africa relations as the strategic pivot point and the priority in our own foreign policies, so as to elevate the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership to new highs.
