Li Keqiang Meets with President Karolos Papoulias of Greece

On the afternoon of June 20 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Karolos Papoulias of Greece at the Presidential Office in Athens. The two sides conducted warm and friendly talks.

Li Keqiang conveyed the warm greetings and good wishes from President Xi Jinping to President Papoulias. Li Keqiang said that China and Greece enjoy profound traditional friendship, increasingly consolidated mutual trust, and constantly deepened cooperation. As China and Greece respectively represent the ancient civilizations of East and West, they share similar concepts in maintaining peace and promoting common development in the world. Through their own efforts, the Greek government and people effectively coped with the European debt crisis. China is sincerely delighted with the achievements in Greece's economic and social development, and is willing to work with Greece to promote the sustained and in-depth development of bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China is ready to work with Greece to expand two-way trade and investment, deepen cooperation in the fields of science and technology, agriculture and infrastructure construction and jointly build the Piraeus Port into a logistics center between China and the Central and Eastern Europe and between China and Southeast Europe. China views Greece as a good friend and a good partner in the EU and hopes Greece play a greater role in promoting the development of China-EU relations as the holder of the EU's rotating presidency.

Papoulias extended warm welcome for Li Keqiang's visit to Greece and asked him to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping. Papoulias said that the current Greece-China relationship is developing at a high level. Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Greece has achieved fruitful results, which shows the two nations' good will in their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and promoting practical cooperation in the new period. Greece, as a good friend of China, will firmly adhere to the One-China policy, and is willing to deepen cooperation with China in various fields, to work together to well build the port of Piraeus so that it will play a better role as a logistics center in the Mediterranean Sea, and to upgrade the level of bilateral cooperation. Greece appreciates China's constructive manner in handling regional issues and will continue to play a positive role in promoting the development of EU-China relations.
