On June 24, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Moscow with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko.
Yang Jiechi said that the meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin this May in Shanghai achieved fruitful results and promoted China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to a new stage of development, demonstrating a stronger development momentum of China-Russia relations. Plenipotentiary Envoy Mikhail Babich of President Putin and I held and chaired the Local Leader Symposium of the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River and the Federal District along the Volga River Bank, with an aim to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to further expand and deepen cooperation in non-adjoining regions of the two countries and to push forward common development. China is willing to carry out strategic cooperation with Russia in a closer, deeper and more comprehensive manner, join hands to promote national strengths of the two countries as well as the peace, stability and development in the region and the world as a whole.
Matviyenko said that developing Russia-China strategic coordination is a priority in Russia's diplomacy. Russia stands ready to keep high-level exchanges with China, enhance exchanges between the two legislative bodies, deepen cooperation in economy and trade, science and technology, people-to-people and cultural engagement and other fields, and strengthen strategic coordination in international affairs. The cooperation between the Federal District along the Volga River Bank and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River enjoys fruitful contents, effective results and broad prospect, which should be persistently advanced by both sides.
