On July 2, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, at request, held telephone talks with Secretary of State John Kerry of the US.
Yang Jiechi expressed that China and the US have maintained an overall stable relations in recent years. Under the guidance of the consensuses reached by the two heads of state, the building of the new model of major country relationship between China and the US has yielded positive progress. Both sides should keep high-level strategic communication, push forward cooperation, handle the differences in a constructive manner, and promote a continuous development of bilateral relations along the right track. China attaches great importance to the new round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue and China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, and looks forward to working with the US side to promote the dialogue and consultation for positive results.
John Kerry said that the US side stands ready to join efforts with China to ensure the success of this round of US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue and US-China High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, advancing the building of the new model of major country relationship between the US and China.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
