2014/09/25

On September 24, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former US Secretary of State Kissinger in New York.

Wang Yi said that Mr. Kissinger is an important witness to and proactive participant in the improvement and development of China-US relations. Today's China and the US are bound by intertwined interests and have a stake in each other's success. We will see no decrease but only increase in cooperation between the two countries in the future. Unlike emerging countries and established countries in history, China and the US are totally capable of building a new type of major-country relationship. The two sides should constantly enhance strategic mutual trust, broaden mutually beneficial cooperation, increase communication and coordination on major international and regional issues and step up sound interactions in the Asia-Pacific, so as to open up a new chapter for China-US relations.

Mr. Kissinger said that US-China relations have traversed an extraordinary path, with fruitful and hard-won results. It is of far-reaching strategic significance for leaders of the two countries to come up with the target of building a new type of major-country relationship. The two sides should keep enriching the initiative and keep advancing US-China relations, as it is in line with the common interests of China and the US, and is conducive to world peace and prosperity.
