On September 24, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former US Secretary of State Clinton in New York.

The initiative put forward by Madame Clinton, that is, emerging countries and established countries can blaze a new trail of major-country relations that is free from conflicts and confrontation, has in particular shown her strategic vision. The current China-US relationship has gone beyond the bilateral scope and acquired global significance. The two sides should take the opportunity of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties to push vigorously ahead with the building of the new type of major-country relationship, taking bilateral relations to a higher level.

Madame Clinton said that relations between the US and China have been striding forward over the past 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, which is vital to both sides. Faced with sound opportunities for the development of bilateral relations, the two sides should further increase dialogue, jointly promote world economic growth, tackle climate change, develop clean energy, safeguard the nuclear non-proliferation regime and deliver more benefits to the two peoples and the world.
