Wang Yi Attended the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of BRICS Countries

On September 25, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the group meeting of Foreign Ministers of BRICS countries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Wang Yi said that this year's BRICS summit in Fortaleza, Brazil has injected vigor and vitality to the BRICS mechanism. All parties should take implemententing the Fortaleza action plan as an opportunity, jointly work on a strategic plan for economic cooperation among BRICS countries in the future, initiate as soon as possible the building of the development bank and the contingency reserve arrangement, carry out coordination on major international political and security issues on a regular basis, and come up with political solutions to international hot spot issues, so as to make BRICS countries more influential.

Foreign Ministers present all agreed that against the backdrop of a complex international landscape, BRICS countries should build up solidarity, create a closer economic partnership and press ahead with cooperation in trade and investment. BRICS countries should also increase communication and coordination on issues such as the international campaign against terrorism, the Ebola epidemic, issues of Palestine and Ukraine, and jointly uphold world peace and security. BRICS countries support the UN in commemorating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN and the victory of WWII, stay committed to maintaining the international order of equity and justice based on the UN Charter.
