Wang Yi Met with Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation Iyad Ameen Madani

On Spetember 25, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Wang Yi said that Islamic states are major strategic forces in the international architecture, and have made unique contributions to the civilization, progress and development of mankind. The OIC serves as an important bridge in promoting friendship and cooperation between China and Islamic states. China and Islamic states have been trusting, accommodating, cooperating with and learning from each other over the past 40 years, setting a good example of harmonious co-existence of different civilizations. The two sides should intensify political exchanges, deepen mutual understanding and support on issues relating to each other's core interests and major concerns, broaden mutually beneficial cooperation, foster amity between the peoples, enhance coordination and communication on international and regional issues and push for political settlement of hot spot issues.

Iyad said that the OIC and its member states attach great importance to the status of China and its role in international affairs. They are committed to increasing mutual understanding and trust as well as forging close relations with China as China's friend, so as to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.
