Yang Jiechi Meets with U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice

On October 20, 2014, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice in Washington, D.C.. Both sides exchanged views on China-US relations and current important international and regional issues of common concern.

Yang Jiechi expressed that with the joint efforts of the two countries, China-US relations have recently achieved positive progress. Next month, President Barrack Obama will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leaders' Meeting in Beijing and visit China. China is ready to cooperate closely with the US to well conduct all the preparatory work for President Obama's visit and attendance of the meeting. I hope that China and the US could meet each other halfway, deepen bilateral cooperation and coordination in extensive fields and on important international and regional issues, achieve positive interaction and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, and handle the issues between the two countries in a constructive way, thus to promote the building of the new model of major-country relationship between China and the US for more tangible results and positively contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the world and the region.

Susan Rice said that the US is dedicated to continuously building the new model of major-country relationship between the US and China, and stands ready to work with China to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields and jointly address regional and global challenges. President Obama is looking forward to his visit to China and meeting once again with President Xi Jinping. The US side is willing to join efforts with China to ensure the success of the visit and promote the APEC Informal Leaders' Meeting for positive results.

The two sides also exchanged views on economy, trade, anti-terrorism, combating the Ebola epidemic, the situation in West Asia and North Africa, the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and other topics.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. Both sides agreed to continue their efforts in advancing the relations between the two armies in a healthy manner.
