Xi Jinping Holds Talks with President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania, Stressing to Inject New Impetus into China-Mauritania Friendly Cooperation with Joint Efforts

On September 14, 2015, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania at the Great Hall of the People. The two heads of state agreed to together plan the future development of bilateral relations and thus inject new impetus into bilateral friendly cooperation.

Xi Jinping welcomed Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to pay a state visit to China and attend the opening ceremony of the China-Arab States Expo 2015. Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations half a century ago, both countries, as good friends and partners, have always trusted each other and sincerely cooperated with each other. Though with different national conditions, both countries have common aspiration for development and face similar challenges, and they should continuously enhance cooperation. China is grateful for Mauritania's long-term firm support on issues regarding China's core interests and major concerns, and will continuously back Mauritania's efforts in maintaining stability and seeking development. China will work with Mauritania to strengthen friendly exchanges between governments, political parties and parliaments and expand communication and cooperation in culture, news, education, youth and other sectors. We are willing to, together with Mauritania, continuously deepen cooperation in such traditional fields as infrastructure construction, mining, fishery and other areas, expand cooperation in emerging areas including agriculture, hydropower and clean energy, and share experience in constructing special economic zone, industrial park and the like. China will continuously promote medical cause in Mauritania by dispatching medical teams, providing medical materials and other means. Both countries should keep close communication and coordination on major international and regional issues thus safeguard common interests of both countries as well as other developing countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that China will boost communication with members of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) including Mauritania to make FOCAC Summit as well as 6th FOCAC Ministerial Meeting to be held in South Africa this year a grand event strengthening China-Africa unity and facilitating win-win cooperation. China will also boost cooperation with Mauritania under the FOCAC framework.

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz stated that Mauritania cherishes its traditional friendly relations with China. Since the two countries established diplomatic relations half a century ago, their cooperation has expanded to political, economic and all other fields and yielded positive results. Mauritania will further deepen its cooperative relations with China in its social and economic development and actively participate in relevant cooperation under the "Belt and Road" framework, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Mauritania. Currently, the international community is facing more and more common challenges, and Mauritania hopes to further enhance communication and coordination with China in international affairs, and will make its own efforts for the success of FOCAC Summit.

After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents covering such fields as economic and technical cooperation, infrastructure construction and public health.

Prior to the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Xi Jinping's wife Mme. Peng Liyuan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Qiangba Puncog, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Ma Biao and others were present.
