Xi Jinping Meets with Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch of News Corp

On September 18, 2015, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch of News Corp.

Xi Jinping said that China and the US, as two major countries in the world, share extensive common interest and enjoy huge cooperation potential. The important consensus reached between President Barack Obama and him is that common interests between both sides far outweigh the differences. Both sides agreed that China and the US should join efforts to build a new model of major-country relationship between the two countries. Such a major-country relationship featuring no-conflict and no-confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation is in line with the common interests of the two peoples. At present, the China-US relations enjoy a overall sound development. With the joint efforts of the governments and peoples from all circles of the two nations, bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all sectors constantly score positive progress, bringing more tangible benefits to the two peoples and vigorously promoting peace, stability and development in the world.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at the invitation of President Barack Obama, he will soon pay a state visit to the US. His visit is to join efforts with the US side to continue expanding bilateral all-round practical cooperation, deepen friendship between the two peoples, promote China-US relations for greater development and bring more and better benefits to the people in the two countries as well as all over the world. During his visit, he is looking forward to continuously exchanging in-depth views with President Barack Obama on major issues of common concern, maintaining bilateral high-level strategic communication, and putting forward guiding opinions on the development of China-US relations in the coming period; demonstrating the common interests of both sides in bilateral, regional and global levels and promoting both sides to reach more substantive results in various fields; encouraging and expanding friendly personnel exchanges and mutual understanding between the two peoples to consolidate the public opinion foundation of China-US relationship.

Xi Jinping said that China will continue to hold an open attitude towards the foreign media. China welcomes foreign media and correspondents to cover stories in China, introducing China's development to the world, and helping the world grasp the opportunities afforded by China's development and boosting mutual understanding and cooperation between the Chinese people and people all over the world.

Rupert Murdoch expressed that the media in the US and the world at large are paying great attention to President Xi Jinping's upcoming state visit to the US and the exchanges between President Xi Jinping and all circles of life in the US.
